By Kirsty McKenzie and Ken Brass for GREEN LIVING

An ancient landscape protects myriad native animals, birds and plants in Girraween National Park in Southeast Queensland.

Traditional owners of the southern Queensland region now protected Nature Bound Australia Tours feature in Green Living Magazineby Girraween National Park knew the area as a great big supermarket. It was a meeting place for people from the northern rivers of NSW and inland Queensland regions on their regular migrations to the Bunya Mountains for the nut festival – a good place to camp for its waterholes and woodlands and the abundant wildlife they supported. It was doubtless also a place of great spiritual significance, with massive granite boulders and rocky outcrops protruding from the landscape.

If you’d like a tailor-made tour of the region with all meals and accommodation organised, undoubtedly the best people to talk to are John and Ros Thompson of the Brisbane based Nature-Bound Australia. They offer 4wd tours with an outdoor accent for groups of 2 to 10 people and promise to take guests to places they wouldn’t discover on their own. They schedule bushwalks, bird watching and visits to local attractions such as wineries, restaurants and galleries according to your particular interests and always with a glass of wine (or two) a fine meal and a comfortable bed at day’s end.

CONNECT WITH NATURE

30 years exploring our homeland has confirmed just how unique Australia is - its vast and distinctive landscapes, natural history and indigenous culture.

However, there is more to a Nature Bound journey than simply exploring and observing.

You are bound to discover how nature is at the heart of your primal wellbeing, your sense of place and belonging in a larger wondrous world, simply by immersing yourself in the wild.

Despite its complexities nature seems to function well, with everything connected and contributing to the whole, suggesting mankind may still have much to learn from nature’s way.

Treat yourself to some inspiring travel; the delights of day and half-day guided walks; bonding with a small group of like minded guests destined to become life long friends; reaping the benefits of exercise, cognitive stimulation, mindfulness and adventure beyond your everyday life.

We are dedicated to the cause of nature deficit in mankind's personal and collective endeavours, in raising a family and nurturing the young. Of sustaining natural resources in business and caring for humanity.

Our journeys are a comfortable, refreshing and energising way of enabling all guests to quietly and inwardly reconnect with the wonders of the natural world - to personally and privately discover the meaning of it all.
